Art & Science Residency: Astronomy
With Pepa Ivanova & Evan Roth

Au cours des quatre dernières semaines, les deux artistes ont eu l’occasion de dialoguer avec les scientifiques de l’Observatoire d’Astronomie de l’Université de Namur et de combiner exploration artistique et investigation scientifique.

✨ Pepa Ivanova est une artiste et chercheuse basée à Bruxelles. Son travail remet en question les valeurs épistémologiques des données numériques et leurs traductions scientifiques et artistiques. Elle travaille avec les technologies numériques, le verre, la 3D, le vivant et l’électronique personnalisée pour créer des histoires, des objets et des installations lumineuses et sonores. Sa recherche de doctorat à LUCA, School of Arts, Gand/KU Leuven (2019–2024) s’est concentrée sur la cohabitation solaire-terrestre et l’autopoïèse des données d’observation croissantes. Elle écrit maintenant des recettes et des scénarios pour survivre dans des habitats en rapide évolution par la mutation.

✨ Evan Roth crée des peintures, des installations, des photographies et des vidéos qu’il présente dans des institutions d’art, des espaces publics ou en ligne. En réutilisant des outils tels que les caméras, les logiciels et les cartes, il remet en question notre perception des systèmes invisibles et des paysages qui façonnent notre monde, tout en amplifiant le rôle de l’action individuelle au sein de ceux-ci. Internationalement reconnu, son travail a été exposé au Musée d’art moderne de New York, au Centre national d’art de Tokyo, à la Whitechapel Gallery de Londres et à la Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery de Washington, D.C. Il a reçu le prix national du design Smithsonian/Cooper-Hewitt, le Creative Capital Award, et l’Artangel Everywhere Award. Ses œuvres font partie de collections majeures dont le MoMA, le Whitney Museum of American Art, le Kunstpalast, la Fondazione Modena Arti Visive (Italie) et la Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.

Join us on September 16 at 6pm at le Delta to discover the work Pepa Ivanova and Evan Roth developed during the Art & Science: Astronomy Residency, over the past four weeks in dialogue with scientists from the Astronomy Observatory at the University of Namur, combining artistic exploration with scientific investigation. 

✨ Pepa Ivanova is an artist and researcher based in Brussels. Her work challenges the epistemological values of numerical data and its scientific and artistic translations. She works with digital technologies, glass, 3D, living matter, and customised electronics to create stories, objects, and light and sound installations. Her PhD research at LUCA, School of Arts, Ghent/KU Leuven (2019–2024) focused on sun–earth cohabitation and the autopoiesis of growing observational data. She now writes recipes and scenarios for surviving in rapidly changing habitats through mutation.

✨ Evan Roth has been creating paintings, installations, photographs, and videos for the past twenty years, presented in art institutions, public spaces, and online. By repurposing tools such as cameras, software, and maps, he challenges our perception of the unseen systems and landscapes that shape our world, while amplifying the role of individual agency within them. Internationally recognized, his work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Art Center in Tokyo, the Whitechapel Gallery in London, and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. He has received the Smithsonian/Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award, the Creative Capital Award, and the Artangel Everywhere Award. His works are part of major collections including MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Kunstpalast, Fondazione Modena Arti Visive (Italy), and the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.
